The incredible 17000 km split could be heard as just another cdr release with two somewhat established noise acts showing off their not so different take on music as something that should be performed using improvisation, voice, handplayed instruments and an army of distortion pedals. But taking their geographical and music backgrounds seriously, the small difference shows something about how the understanding of what we do can cross any social barrier. Don't know if thats actually incredible but the title is sort of ironic...
Raven Chacon is presumably the first Native American noise act, and he still spends alot of time in the Navajo Reservation in Southwest U.S. despite a masters degree in music from CalArts. On this release he does what could be called dark distorted avantgarde with both percussive and vocal elements and a very improvised feel to it. Raven's quite active with numerous releases and dressed-up perfomances on the American scene.
Torturing Nurse on the other hand is a bunch of noiserockers from Shanghai, with backgrounds in a rather unknown chinese no-wave rock scene. They seem to be pretty hyped about, but that shouldnt bother you because on this split they really deliver the goods with a shredding harshnoise landscape mainly generated by towers of improvised guitarfeedback and a screaming chick. Fierce...
